One of the great tragedies in modern attempts to see people converted to Christianity is a narrow focus on how to be born again. It is a subject that the Bible spends little time on, and for good reason. Until people know the sinfulness of their hearts, and the lostness of their souls, majoring on how to be saved is counterproductive.
Some years ago I happened upon a quaint little town in the hill country of Virginia. Business establishments, jammed one against another, crowded the narrow main street. Here and there I could see an alley between buildings.
The United States Declaration of Independence promises citizens “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Since that day many have been pursuing these promises, especially the pursuit of happiness. But they have been looking in the wrong places.
